History
Started in 2000 as a Counter-Strike Clan, GFY was one of the best known clans in Utah, as well as most of the western states. We competed in OGL before the
days when CAL became all the rage, and rose into the top 20. However work and college life took its toll.
GFY never fully went away, but has since moved on past just Counter-Strike. A small, core of GFY always continued to
LAN together and play various other games, often as part of other online competitive teams.
Fast-forward to 2005, GFY starts its slow comeback by forming an Unreal Tournament 2004 team to compete at local LANs.
After several months, GFY introduced a Day of Defeat Source team to compete in online leagues. In GFY's first season
in Day of Defeat Source competitive play, GFY won TPG2-Open and with it a birth to TPG2-Invite. Before the end of its
second season of competition, GFY's DODS team was then sponsored by Electronic Dreams.
Since then, GFY has enjoyed a host of other teams including an competitive Quake Wars team, Call of Duty 4, and continues to compete in LAN tournaments with Unreal Tournament and Team Fortress 2. Our Unreal Tournament LAN team even took 2nd place in a large western states LAN tournament P42. Furthermore, GFY continues to enjoy sponsorships from other great companies such as Panacom and A+ Computer Medic.
GFY Members also play on consoles and encourages communities to grow on all gaming platforms. The nature of competitive gaming on the console is one that is intriguing and will also be apart of GFY's future.
What Is GFY?
*GFY is a multi-game organization. Anybody willing to take on the responsibility of a new team within the organization can do so. If you do, you are responsible for filling the team roster, scheduling events/competitions, and practices (if you want them) etc. You can be as strict or as lenient as you want (with in the general GFY rules stated in the forums). GFY administration will assist you in what ever you need, within reason, however, the ultimate responsibility rests with you as the team leader.
*GFY is also a local LAN team. Although we do have a large online presence, we find there is increased excitement and better team play on a LAN. Furthermore, there is greater professional presence when competing in LAN competitions. As a note, GFY does not take any cut of any winnings from the players – you earned it.
*GFY does not "own" servers. If you want your own game server, it is the team leader that is responsible for finding and paying for that server. GFY will assist in finding sponsors for servers or may provide servers via other means, but it is not guaranteed.
*Joining GFY does not mean you must leave another clan/team, if GFY does not compete in that game. You can join GFY for an Unreal Tournament team and stay in your Counter-Strike team. IF at any point GFY decides to make a competitive Counter-Strike team, you may be restricted out of some areas of the forum or ventrilo server. This will be determined by the team leader and the administration - and probably won’t be an issue except in extreme cases. We also would prefer people to not join other clans just because we don’t offer it as a team. Talk with the GFY pool of members and see if anyone is interested in a team before you make that decision. Also, you are required to tell GFY of any other teams you are a member of. Generally, we trust our members and it shouldn't be a problem.
